Few career paths are as rewarding as entering the medical field. Of course, there are plenty of different options if you want to enter the medical world. Plenty of specializations exist, from surgery all the way to phlebotomy. For a huge number of people, sonography is one of the best areas to enter the medical industry in. The Job
Sonography jobs involve running a basic procedure on patients. You’ll be using an ultrasound machine to send sound waves through their body. Those sound waves echo back to the machine and create a visual image of the inside of the body, including organs, blood flow, and more. There are various areas of specialization in sonography, and you can choose to focus on performing ultrasounds on the brain, the abdomen, the female reproductive system, and more. There are many options beyond just scanning unborn babies, and ultrasounds are used in virtually every field of medicine.
The Education
In most cases you can earn your degree for sonography within two years. An associate’s degree is what you’ll be awarded, and afterwards you will need to pass a simple exam to be awarded a sonography certificate that will qualify you for work. You’ll probably start your schooling with class time learning about anatomy and other topics related to the work. This is followed up by hands on training where you’ll use the equipment and learn how to operate it properly. Once you’ve finished your education and earn your certification you will be referred to as an RDMS, or a Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer.

So many students interested in medicine opt to become an ultrasound technician for a number of reasons. The pay is well above average, the job stability is solid, and the education requirements are far less strenuous than some of the other ones in the medical field.
