A competent ultrasound technician is one who has the ability to understand and manipulate all diagnostic tools and equipment used in sonography, have the physical ability to help, raise, and turn patients to make them relax and comfortable for the best ultrasound shots, have impeccable visual judgment to be able to properly select the right images for the doctor, be vigilant with details to be able to record a patient’s information accurately, and above all else have excellent communication skills, strong interaction skills and outstanding interpersonal skills.
Training in this field can be from a hospital, a vocational/technical institution, with the military, and from a college or university which extends related vocational or bachelor programs. All these institutions have the ability to give qualified guidance and training on the ultrasound field. With that said the demand for Sonographers is expected to increase very rapidly over the next 10 years. Further, this field has great income potential in the field.
