Sonography is a very popular and upcoming profession. It has grown significantly and very quickly. Nowadays, new technologies and techniques are being developed and the demand is increasing due to the use of various diagnostic ultrasound procedures. It is a good alternative to radiation procedures because it is safe and cheaper. Sonography does not even have any harmful side effects like radiation.
Sonographers and other ultrasound technicians use equipment which uses high frequency sounds waves. They use these high frequency equipments for getting images of patient’s internal organs and looking into any problems or diseases. Most sonographers hold associate degrees from various medical schools but some others also gain certificates or a bachelor’s degree in medical sonography. Although the degrees are different their coursework and subjects remain the same. Students are taught biology, anatomy and related sciences.

All medical schools and colleges don’t offer all types of specialization so a student should go to schools which provide the type of specialization he or she really wants.
There are many famous medical schools in Florida. Many famous medical schools provide programs in sonography. There are also various universities in Florida which offer these programs. There are universities like Keiser University. They provide students Associate of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography. Their program provides students laboratory and practical clinical experiences. They help prepare student for entry level diagnostic medical sonographers. Beginner sonographers should use various diagnostic techniques under supervision of licensed doctors of medicines or osteopathy. Students of Keiser University have to complete various courses to get the associate degree. These include courses like Introduction to Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Practical Aspect of Sonography, Cross- Sectional Anatomy, Clinical Rotation I & II and many others.
There are also some other medical schools and institutes in Florida which teach and provide sonography programs. Some of the famous institutes are the American Institute School of Health Careers. They provide students certificate programs and award Diagnostic General Sonography upon completion.
Other institutes include the American Institute College of Health Professions Celebration. They also provide students some certificate programs like the Diagnostic Cardiac Sonography or Diagnostic General Sonography. There are some other colleges as well like the ATI College of Health in Miami. The institute provides diploma and associate degrees to students. They provide degrees like Diagnostic Ultrasound Technician, Medical Assisting Admin, Medical Assisting Technician or Respiratory Therapy.
There are also many more medical schools offering these programs in Florida. With the quick growth and expansion of the field it provides many opportunities and high paid jobs for qualified sonographers. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics the average salary for qualified sonographers was USD57,160. They predict increase in employment and salaries due to the quick growth and popularity of this field.
