Advantages of Ultrasound Images

The latest ultrasound technology of 3Dimensional and 4Dimensional images provides much clearer and advanced images of fetuses in the womb. The images appear more life-like, something which is great for expectant and eager parents, and advantageous and helpful to doctors as they will be able to clearly understand the pregnancy which will help improve their understanding of the behavior and progress and development of the fetus. The earliest signs of life in the womb can be detected as early as 8 weeks, with the 12th week showing the fetus yawning, slight kicking of the legs and moving tiny fingers.

The images of a 3D ultrasound are so clear that one can even see clear facial expressions by the age of 20 weeks. Your unborn baby has even known how to smile by 20 weeks. At around 24 weeks, the baby can suck a thumb, stick out the tongue – well if this is not amazing, you know what is. This is all possible to see thanks to 3 dimensional ultrasound images. While 2D images were also used a few years back, it can be very hard to decipher the different body parts of the unborn baby but with a 3D image, you don’t need to ask anyone as it is all there for you to see – how your baby looks like, how it smiles, all features of the baby — something which can be a great launch in the bonding process between mother, father, and child.

Most expectant mothers are known to spend most of their waking hours visualizing about what their unborn baby looks like, some of them even dreaming of the features of their baby. As early as the 5th month into the pregnancy i.e. between the 28th and 30th week, the baby would have already developed a human looking face with eyebrows and eyelashes, and would have started to open the eyes by the 7th month. At around this time, a 3D ultrasound will show the clearest image of the face of the baby and an image taken at this time will tell you how your baby looks like. This however depends heavily on the position of the baby when the scan is being taken and the expertise of the ultrasound technician.

Unlike the 2Dimensional ultrasounds, it isn’t a must to drink lots of fluids, preferably water, and have a full bladder during scan for the best results possible and the clearest of images. However, for the best 3D ultrasound images, it is recommended to drink lots of water prior to your scan appointment to ensure there is enough amniotic fluid. There are so many galleries online today with 3D ultrasound images that when you see you will find it hard to believe the baby is still in the womb. This is because the images are very life-like showing expressions and behaviors of an already-born baby. It is no wonder many parents-to-be go for ultrasound scans to start bonding with their unborn kids even before the kid is born.
